This object is a Northwest Coast D-Adze, a highly specialized woodworking tool traditionally used by indigenous carvers such as the Haida, Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth peoples. It is named for the ergonomic “D” shape and is used in the creation of items like dugout canoes, totem poles, and house hold goods such as bowls and masks. This adze is a modern reproduction in the form of a salmon motif. It is made of alder wood. The metal portion of the adze is made from a tempered leaf spring. The adze measures 8″ L x 3″ T x 1 3/8″ W.

Layered glass chevron beads of various colors were very popular among the tribes and fur traders. Originating from Venice Italy (Venetians). The blue color is very very light.
